My outlook PST file size has reached 5GB and wont backup?

My outlook 2003 PST file is of around 5GB and I am not able to backup it up to any external hard drive or flash drive. Is there anything that can be done to back it up? Compacting does not help, also I can’t delete emails they are all important for my work. So, I created a new PST file, but don’t know how to split 5GB file if possible?

Your PST file has crossed the 2GB size limitation after which it does not work, so is your outlook still accessible? If yes it could be split manually with the help of Microsoft Oversized PST and OST crop tool and then copied.

In other cases backup is done as follows-
• A copy of the PST file to be split should be made first, such that if any problem occurs, original PST file can be restored back
• Now split PST file with any standard file splitter
• It can be done either on date field or by emails
• Any number of parts can be made with sizes below 2 GB
• After this is done they can be quickly backed up to desired media
