Mass storage error in G4 Mac?

After running hardware test my Mac G4 17” laptop, it crashed. A message came up as mass storage error 2STF/8/3: ATA-100ata-6- Master. On startup fan sound is heard, after which mac startup sound is heard. But, instead of booting it gets to grey screen with apple logo and remains so long I don’t switch it off. Will I be able to retrieve and access drive data?

Incompatibility issues often end with problems as such so it’s important and also worth making critical data backup before carrying out such test or to verify the hardware compatibility with OS X to be used on.

But important thing for you is that the data can be recovered. It is so as the drive is working because it sounds at startup. The OS X needs to be reinstalled, with which new file system and structures will be created. Then for mac OS X data recovery, use can use an advanced recovery application capable of reading/scanning drive and locating data.
