How can I get my lost photos recovered?

I got some of my pictures lost from the Canon Power shot D10 Digital Camera as I had shutdown my camera while this is reading some of the images. Due to this all the images contained in that personal folder got deleted at once. There are large numbers of pictures saved in this folder including my weekend trip and my birthday party too. Anyhow I like to have them back. What can be done to get those pictures back in my camera? Please suggest a free and simple way
