Converting the .mts for use in Final Cut Express without losing quality ?

The external hard drive of my JVC camcorder is full of .MTS files. I am not able to open the file with Final Cut Express. I have bought a converter called iSkySoft to convert the .MTS file into a more accessible format like .mov or .avi. Though these converters were able to convert the file into other format but the HD quality is lost.

So I need suggestions about how to open the .MTS files in Final Cut or any other converting software that can retain the full high definition quality while converting. My camcorder is JVC GZ-HD 10.

The camcorder is able of shooting AVCHD, so if you use that setting you would have no problems whatsoever in ingesting the video you shoot from now onwards. Instead of copying the video files into Final Cut Express, you should copy the entire thing onto your computer. So when the computer is connected you will be able to see the files as a drive on the desktop called ‘No Name’. So, just open it and you would be able to get access to the contents.

Alternatively there are many M2TS Converter for Mac available that are able to convert the MTS file to other commonly used file formats like .MOV, .AVI etc. Some of the popular converters are Xilisoft, Moyea etc.

To get rid of your problem, you can import the .MTS file into Final Cut Express. Connect your camcorder and then navigate to FCE New Log and New Windows. After that choose your camcorder in the Finder window and then the .MTS files begin to import. If suppose an error message is displayed while importing like AVCHD contains unsupported media, then choose a folder whose directory structure which is able to match up the supported media.

The file format of the Final Cut Express is .MOV. So, you would need a converter that is able to convert the MTS file to MOV file format. I know about a MTS Converter for Mac called PavTube. With the help of this converter you can easily convert the MTS file to any output video file format very quickly and easily. The converter is able to adopt advanced audio and video sync technology. Thus the converter is able to convert the MTS file to MOV format without affecting the high definition quality.
