Can you suggest me a MOV converter and MKV converter for Mac which is not expensive and have excellent features?

Hi, can you please solve my problem? I belong to general class family. I am Fan of listening to the music. One day my friend told me that take my iPod and load some songs on to that. I couldn’t refuse him and took his iPod to load the songs. When I started doing this I get to know that his iPod was not running the songs. I was in tension that time that I have corrupted his devices but later on I realize that the songs was in MOV and MKV format. Because of this reason his device was not working. Now I don’t want to depress him. Can you tell me the names of the software to convert MOV and MKV file?
