Unable to find Scanpst.exe on my PC. Is it safe to download it?

I am facing problems while using outlook on vista and it says error with c:usersappdatalocalmicrosoftoutlookoutlook.pst. Run Scanpst.exe. I searched for the file with given location on my PC but was unable to find it. Is it safe to download it?

mikebush 		Outlook users generally look to download Scanpst.exe if they face some error in smooth running of MS Outlook. Scanpst.exe is a free utility that has been designed by Microsoft for scanning corrupted or damaged PST or personal storage tables. You must know there is a copy of Scanpst.exe present in your PC or some where in the installation disk.

No it is not considered safe to download Scanpst.exe from websites that offers it as a free download. If Scanpst.exe file is downloaded through internet there are risk of downloading the wrong or incompatible version. Moreover the files may contain virus and malware infection that can easily damage the emails and contacts saved in the outlook.

When there is an option of getting the Scanpst.exe files after reinstalling of Microsoft Outlook, there is no point downloading it from any website and bringing your PC at stake. Since it is tricky to find out Scanpst.exe as it is present in hidden folders for general users, it is better to use third party outlook PST repair utility for fixing problems of PST corruption.
